A trip to Puerto Maldonado Tambopata tops the bucket list of many travellers in South America. Puerto Maldonado is a jump off point to the country’s three protected reserves – Tambopata-Candamo, Bahuaja-Sonene and Manu. This jungle town is named after a renowned explorer Faustino Maldonado. It sits on the banks of Madre de Dios River. The region Madre de Dios takes its name from the river which is surrounded by lush Amazon Jungle.

Tambopata is one of the remaining jewels of the world’s largest rainforests – Amazon. On this trip, we will take you to the heart of Tambopata. Here you will experience the astonishing beauty amidst the chirping birds in peace of this enormous rain forest.

Tambopata national reserve is incredibly bio-diverse due to its isolated location and protected status. The reserve is home to more than 100 breeds of mammals and 600 types of birds. It also houses over 1000 types of butterflies and 40,000 different plant species. Due to such a vast diversity, this region is termed as one of the most biodiverse region on earth!

Day1

Puerto Maldonado - Madre De Dios

Our local guide will pick you up from the airport or bus terminal. We will then drive you to the Madre de Dios river wharf. Here, you will begin a downstream boat ride for about an hour to the eco-lodge. After checking in, you will have some time to wink a nap. Later, our guide will meet you at a designated hour to start your first excursion on the Amazons. This would be more of an orientation tour. Our guide would walk you through the jungle sharing some vital information on the flora and fauna those are typical to the region. At dusk, you will be going on a safari to spot caimans and capybaras (the biggest rodent in the world that might weight up to 60 kgs / 120-pound). After the safari, we will sail back to the lodge where you will have dinner before retiring for the day.

Day2

Monkey Island - Sandoval Lake

You will be starting  at 05:30 in the morning. This excursion will be on a 40m / 131feet high canopy to spot different species of birds, namely eagles, macaws, parrots, etc. After sailing a bit through the river, we will go back to the lodge to have breakfast. After breakfast, you will be checking out from the lodge and we will start our boat ride to the Monkey Island. Here you will be able to see some distinct species of monkeys like spider monkeys. We will then sail to Tambopata National Reserve. Once here, we will walk for about an hour along the lush tropical jungle towards Sandoval Lake. Along the way, you will be spotting some sloths, monkeys and birds. We will have a brief stop for lunch. After relishing on a typical lunch, we will be sailing on the lake to spot some mammals. The region is known for giant otters an endangered specie. We will then sail to the lodge where a typical dinner will be served.
Day3

Wild board's Clay Lick-Zip Lining

You will start your day with a typical breakfast and our guide will take you on a stroll through the jungle. You will have an option to stop for fishing and trawl some piranhas. About mid-day, you will be back in the lodge for lunch. Late in the afternoon, you can go for zip-lining. At about 07:00 PM we will walk back to the lodge where dinner will be served.
Day4

Farewell

After the breakfast, you will be transferred to the city (Puerto Maldonado) where our guide will tour you around the city. You will be visiting places like the flea market on this guided tour. We will then drop you off at the airport or the bus terminal.
